Dive HMAS Brisbane Report 7th April - 14th April 2010

Dive HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 7th April - 14th April 2010

Easter looked promising a week or more ago but as it drew closer the predictions for the Easter break drew grimmer.
Latest Coast Weather Forecast

The strong winds and swell came in earlier than predicted and put a hold on many expectant divers' plans. Most diving activity was cancelled due to the poor weather conditions however the good news is; IT'S ALL GONE now and we have perfect weather.

The swell is virtually nonexistent and there's barely a breeze blowing. This pattern looks like it will hold for the rest of the week and into the weekend. So if you are a diver who's been waiting for the conditions to settle, the news is, they have and they don't get much better than what you will see over the next few days for a dive on HMAS Brisbane or other Sunshine Coast dive sites.

The marine life on the HMAS BRISBANE wreck is going off. There is just so much activity there with something for every diver from Frog fish to "Barnacle Bill" the huge Kingie that has 3 barnacles over his left eye. Matt was able to swim right up close to him to almost touch him, on his blind side.

LADY MUSGRAVE TRIP; for the diver looking for a dive packed weekend on the Great Barrier Reef, don't forget that there is still room available on our trip aboard MV Venus in early May.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Report 30th March - 6th April 2010

Dive HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 30th March - 6th April 2010

Although many don’t believe it, the diving has been great. There is absolutely no “fall out” from the cyclone.
Latest Coast Weather Forecast

As mentioned in earlier reports, the diving is good and visibility has also been great. Today, Tuesday we have 20 metres viz on the HMAS BRISBANE and calm seas.

The forecast for the Easter weekend is a bit patchy but we’ve learnt from experience to, certainly, take on board the long range forecast but not to jump to conclusions this far out from the weekend. Conditions look great for the first part of the weekend and we’ll keep and eye out and add a bit of hope too, for the rest of the weekend.

Sunreef will be open every day over Easter with plans to dive HMAS Brisbane and other locations each day as well.

The Sale is still on and although some lines have sold out, there are still some great deals to be had.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 24th - 31st March 2010

Well it’s done it again. The HMAS BRISBANE HAS TURNED ON SOME GREAT DIVING.
Latest Coast Weather Forecast

After all the bad weather we’ve had, rain and rough seas and we head out to the HMAS BRISBANE yesterday and find flat calm seas and 12-15 metres viz once you got under the 5-6 metres of dirty water on top. The ship was ‘going off’. There was bait fish everywhere and a number of other species (that will remain nameless), to be seen. Divers returned extremely happy with the dives.

Certainly having the MID SHIP MOORING is a winner. It makes for a nice easy dive towards the stern on one dive and the bow on the second and you’ve covered the whole ship without feeling like you’ve run a marathon.

Diving again today on the HMAS BRISBANE was great. Viz was between 8-10 metres but still heaps of life around the big ship.
The ship is in good shape after the big swells and confirms once again that the planning and research that went into the whole project of placing the ship on the bottom, was done properly and made the project a complete success.

We had some open water students diving The caves today also and they had 8-10 metres viz there. So the effects of the bad weather have moved on already.

It just shows you, you’ve got to get out there and have a look. The ones who are sitting at home and guessing, are missing out.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 18th - 25th March 2010

Rain, wind, big seas, have I said enough? Oh, I forgot to mention the cyclones!!!
Latest Coast Weather Forecast

This all makes it a bit hard for even the most avid diver to get excited about going for a dive. We did manage to squeeze in a couple of trips late last week and had 10 metres viz on the Gneerings. But that was the end of it and will be until the cyclone sorts itself out and moves on. We won’t be diving on HMAS Brisbane this weekend and are hoping that it all settles in time for the following weekend and Easter. We live in hope!!!

Our sale is still in full swing with some great savings available on all lines of gear plus don’t forget, we still have a few ex hire, fully serviced, scuba sets available from $800 to $950. Check the Sunreef dive shop.

Drop in for a look and a chat. There’s time for all that while the weather rages.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Report 9th March - 16th March 2010

Dive HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 9th March - 16th March 2010

We need to take heed of weather forecasts but unfortunately they don't always work out as predicted. i.e. last weekend. Latest Coast Weather Forecast

The forecast for Saturday was encouraging however it turned out rather nasty. We planned to head out, managed one dive on the HMAS BRISBANE with 12 metres viz but had to call it a day. It was not comfortable at all and on the edge as far as safety was concerned. The prediction for Sunday was worse than the one for Saturday so, after the situation on Saturday, we erred on the side of safety and canned our trip on Sunday only to awake and notice the drop in the ocean and wind..........

Conditions are improving and today we managed to get a double dive on the HMAS BRISBANE and ended up with 10 metres viz once you descended through 4-5 metres of soup. There was heaps of marine life out and about and divers came back very happy after a couple of great dives. Water temp. is still on 26C.

Tuesday and Wednesday look like being great days to be out on the water with a "wait and see" for Thursday and maybe a no no for the weekend. It is early in the week though and the opposite has happened before so we won't call it yet, we'll wait and see.

End of Summer Sale;
Don't forget that we have some great deals going at the moment with our sale in full swing. 20%-50% off many items in stock. Take a look at the dive shop and our End of Summer Sale.
