HMAS Brisbane Sunshine Coast Scuba Diving Reports

Dive Report August 28

Near perfect conditions have all the divers smiling. After a few scares from weather reports that didn’t get anywhere near as bad as thought. We managed to get some great diving in over the weekend. Sunday saw a metre and a bit of swell but the conditions soon cleared up and calmed down. Today, Thursday, we had 18-20 metres viz and plenty of marine life of all sorts on the HMAS BRISBANE. Water temp is on 19C which is good news after the water getting to 17C a week or so ago.  There was very clear water around Mudjimba Island and at the Caves over the entire weekend with plenty of nudibranchs, anonomies and a tremendous variety of tropical fish.

Dive Report August 19

Sea conditions have just been glorious and those brave enough to venture out for a dive of late have been rewarded big time for their efforts. The water has been gradually clearing up with visibility of 15 metres at The Caves on Monday and 20 metres on the HMAS BRISBANE. Apart from a few really keen local divers, our locals have been letting the side down. The visitors have been out numbering local divers by a huge margin in these past weeks. Guys and girls, you are missing out I have to inform you. By 9a.m. the weather has warmed and you only need a spray jacket or similar, to put over your wetsuit while you are not diving, plus a cap or a beanie and all is toasty warm. Don’t miss these calm seas and the constantly good visibility, get out there and have a dive.

Dive Report August 7
Beautiful calm seas and clear blue skies make it extremely comfortable out on the water at this time of year.
The water temperature is still on 18-19C so with a reasonable wetsuit, it is very “doable” dive weather, even for warm blooded Queenslanders. Visibility is slowly improving with 10 metre viz early this week. The weather conditions look like holding for the weekend and if so, visibility should also improve. Fish life has been prolific and we have seen dolphins on the surface a number of times recently. Divers are still reporting being able to hear the whales as they move on past. All in all, it’s been a great experience to be out diving.
Dive Safe,
The Sunreef Team.

Dive Report July 30

The weather settled over the weekend to end up with flat calm seas making it very pleasant on the surface. After the high winds and rough seas, this was welcomed by the divers that's for sure. Visibility wasn't as bad as many predicted. With very muddy water on the surface, once under this the viz opened up to about 6 metres on the Gneering Shoals. Viz on the HMAS BRISBANE was down to about 4 metres but is already on the improve. With the sound of whales once again and dolphins surfacing around thee wreck, it made for a great dive. Water temp is still sitting on 19C and conditions for the weekend look like improving even more. So don't miss the calmer sea conditions while we have the south westerlies with us.

Dive Report July 22
Brilliant flat seas and at times, up to 30 metre visibility has had divers excited this past week. The viz dropped to 10-12 metres on the HMAS BRISBANE over the weekend but we still had 15-25 metres viz at Mudjimba and on the Gneering Shoals. Water temp is still a very reasonable 19C. Southern visitors and overseas visitors have revelled in the conditions. We've had a few keen local divers who have also been raving about the conditions plus they've not only heard whales singing but seen them while on the surface too. One sighting was very close to the boat. So those local divers who are waiting for the beautiful winter diving conditions, they are here!!! they have arrived!! These conditions will be missed by those who procrastanate. By 9a.m. the air temp has warmed and with a jacket to wear over your wetsuit while out on the boat, stick a beannie on your head and "Bob's your uncle". Get in and enjoy these calm seas and clear water conditions while they last. Later this week there will be a bit of wind but nothing to worry the diver too much. Dive conditions should settle again by the weekend.
