Advanced Resuscitation Course HLTAID015 Overview

The HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation course and oxygen therapy course describes the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation and oxygen therapy in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. This unit applies to persons who may be required to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation or oxygen therapy in a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

This course is essential for scuba divers, freedivers, dive professionals, boat crew, lifeguards, and anyone working in environments where advanced resuscitation and oxygen administration may be required. It also fulfils requirements for PADI Rescue Diver certification or higher.

The following units will be included in your certificate:

  • HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Course Delivery

This course is delivered face-to-face at our training facility.

Duration: Face-to-face contact time of at least 4 hours

Entry Requirements

  • Prerequisite: Participants must hold a current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid qualification (or equivalent)
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI): All students undertaking nationally recognised training must have a USI. Create yours at usi.gov.au
  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy: It is recommended that participants have literacy and numeracy competencies equivalent to Australian Core Skills Framework Level 2
  • Physical Requirements: Participants must have the physical capacity to perform practical demonstrations, including performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and rescue breathing techniques on manikins. There are no exemptions to this requirement.

Assessment Requirements

Assessment includes practical demonstrations and written theory assessment. Assessments conducted during the face-to-face training session include:

  • Perform CPR on an adult manikin (including the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED, and placing the casualty into the recovery position)
  • Perform CPR on an infant manikin
  • Manage a casualty with life-threatening bleeding
  • Provide oxygen to a conscious casualty requiring supplemental oxygen
  • Select and insert an appropriate airway adjunct
  • Monitor and coordinate maintenance of resuscitation and oxygen equipment
  • Complete an incident report
  • Theory assessment: Written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions

What You Will Learn

This practical course covers advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy skills:

  • Managing the unconscious breathing and non-breathing casualty in line with ARC guidelines
  • Advanced CPR techniques including single and two-rescuer CPR
  • Use of bag-valve-mask (BVM) resuscitation equipment
  • Safe administration of oxygen therapy
  • Selection and insertion of appropriate airway adjuncts
  • Recognition and response to diving-related illnesses
  • Management of life-threatening bleeding including use of tourniquets and haemostatic dressings
  • Oxygen equipment assembly, operation, and maintenance
  • Safe work practices for oxygen cylinders and associated equipment
  • Infection control procedures and PPE use

Certificate Renewal Requirements

In line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and Safe Work Australia’s First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice, the recommended renewal periods are:

  • HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy: 12 months
  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation: 12 months

Parking: Please keep in mind especially if you are arriving at 11:30 am or later, that parking can sometimes get very busy. Please give yourself at least 15 – 20 minutes for parking. We recommend that you park your vehicle in the Sea Life (Underwater World) car park at The Wharf Mooloolaba, 123 Parkyn Parade.

What to bring: Wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes, and bring along a notepad. Please organize your lunches or snacks for the day, there are plenty of options here at The Wharf Mooloolaba for places to eat.

Cancelations and refunds: For all of our courses, we have a 7 day course cancellation policy. This means that a course cancelled or rescheduled within this 21 day period may not be eligible for a refund or rebooking of the course.
