The Sunshine Coast Council has brought back the midnight fireworks display for New Year’s Eve 2025, and Whale One offers the ultimate vantage point. While crowds pack the Esplanade, you’ll be cruising the Mooloolah River with unobstructed views of the midnight fireworks displays, launched from an offshore barge.
Step aboard and let the vibrant atmosphere and rhythmic sounds of DJ Ollie transport you into celebration mode. Drinks are available from our fully licensed bar as you dance under the stars and count down to midnight surrounded by the stunning lights of the Sunshine Coast and your best mates. This exclusive adults-only event promises to create lasting memories as we welcome the New Year with the spectacular Mooloolaba fireworks as your backdrop.
Boarding begins at 9:45pm and we’ll return to dock after the midnight fireworks celebrations. Enjoy a welcome cocktail included in the ticket price, with beers, wine, champagne and non-alcoholic drinks available at the bar. DJ Ollie will be mixing tunes all night!
The theme for this year is Party Shirts! Come in your best (or worst) party shirt, with prizes to be won!
About Whale One
When you arrive at The Wharf Mooloolaba, make your way to the boat ramp located behind the Sunreef shop to check in and collect your boarding pass before boarding the iconic Whale One. Previously owned by Steve Irwin, this 2-storey catamaran has been transformed into the Sunshine Coast’s largest and most comfortable cruising vessel. Whale One is the only 2-storey vessel capable of taking up to 120 passengers in total comfort.
This spacious vessel is equipped with a fully licensed bar to ensure your thirst is quenched while you take in the views of the Mooloolaba midnight fireworks. The 360-degree range of vantage points around the vessel means everyone gets a great view of the New Year’s Eve fireworks display.
Planning Your Night
Parking is available onsite at The Wharf Mooloolaba or at the Council two-storey car park on the corner of River Esplanade and the entrance to the Marina (opposite Hancock Lane). With over 30,000 people expected in Mooloolaba for the NYE fireworks celebrations, we recommend arranging a taxi, rideshare or using the increased Translink services running until 1:30am. Depending on boat traffic on the river after the midnight fireworks, our arrival time back into the Mooloolaba Wharf may vary slightly.
